This guide features everything you need to know to use your Pocketbyte DevKit, from unboxing to installing new apps.

Unboxing

Pocketbyte DevKits come shipped with the Pocketbyte Launcher pre-installed. It’s like the operating system.
1

Connect your gamepad module

Inside of your DevKit box, there will be two different parts: the main module and the gamepad module. Simply take your gamepad module and plug it into the bottom of the main module. This should be pretty intuitive.
2

Charge your device

Shipping charged Li-Po batteries is highly dangerous (and illegal, I think), so you will need to charge your DevKit before using it. The USB-C port can be found on the top. Any kind of wall plug or adapter works!
3

Turn on your device

The power switch is located on the left side of the main module. You might need to use your fingernail to reach it as it is flush with the shell.
4

Insert a microSD card

Pocketbyte Launcher requires a microSD card to be able to store more than one app at a time. Technically you can use the device without one, but you will need to flash programs via USB as Pocketbyte Launcher will not be able to work. The microSD card slot can be found beside the USB-C port at the top of the main module.
5

Success!

That’s all there is to it. Although there are not many built-in apps that come with Pocketbyte Launcher, so you will need to install them yourself.

Installing New Apps

There are three ways of installing new apps on Pocketbyte:
  1. Installing apps through Wi-Fi, on the Pocketbyte App Store
  2. Downloading app bundles and putting them on the microSD card
  3. Manually flashing new programs via the ESP-IDF (will overwrite Pocketbyte Launcher)
More information will be added to this page after DevKits are released.
